The "Shimmy for a Cause" show is a
fundraiser for the American Cancer Society
Relay for Life.
More detailed info below (with newer info toward the top):
Hi all! Thank you so much for agreeing to perform in this year's "Shimmy for a Cause," which is now just 2 weeks away!
I need to set the lineup, and will have a printed program, and need to write intros for our emcee, so please let me know the following by the end of this week (March 2):
Many of you performed last year, and the setup is basically the same. For those who aren't familiar, or for those who need a reminder, here's some details about the show and the space:
Show structure:
Music: Please bring your music on CD the day of the event. Tips: Please make sure it's a regular audio CD, not MP3. Make sure it's clean, and please have the music you're using be the only music on the CD. Also a good idea to have a backup.
Publicity: Please help the show be a success by spreading the word around, and try to get people to come!
Also, I am posting a list of performers on the web site (this site)... for many of you, I already have photos and website info, but if I don't, and you want that included, please send to me (for photos, you can just tell me where to find one on the web, if you prefer).
Door prizes: We will be holding drawings (raffles) for door prizes during the intermissions, so if you have anything you could donate for a door prize, that'd be great!
Stage: ArtServe has a decent-size stage. It's 12 feet deep by 17+ feet across with extra triangular sections on the sides so that at its widest point, it is about 24 feet wide. It is made of plywood painted over, pretty sturdy but not flawless :-) There are 2-step stairs on both sides. The ceiling is fairly high, with some light fixtures hanging down a bit. I tried it out and there's plenty of room to swing a cane. It's possible to hit the light fixtures with the cane, but you'd have to try pretty hard to do it :-) So wings should be no problem, if you were planning on those.
Dressing area: We are planning to wall off some area with fabric to use as a dressing room, but space will probably be limited so, it'll probably be best if we don't have everyone try to be using t at the same time :-) You'll probably want to have a coverup.
Tickets: As a reminder, you'll need performer tickets, which are $15. (Regular audience tickets are $25.) You can get them as follows:
OK, I think that's everything for now! If you have any questions, please ask. (Sherezzah at acbd@beledy.net)
Thanks again!

We would be particularly interested in performers
who are cancer survivors or who have an interesting personal
cancer-related story, or in
numbers that relate to the Relay for Life slogan
of "Celebrate, remember, fight back".
If you're on Facebook, please remember to "Like" the Anti-Cancer Belly Dancers, and invite all your friends to the "Shimmy for a Cause" event!
